Dress for Session Success - your Little Stars

We're gearing up for March Mini Session Madness at Katie B. Photography which includes oodles (and oodles) of on campus school mini sessions.  Dressing your kids for session success doesn't have to be daunting.  Whether you are dressing them for your Family Session or their own, it's time to let your little stars (and their emerging personalities) shine...

Let's start with dressing them for you.  Whether its for your holiday card, a new wall grouping on your wall or a Mother's Day gift, we get it.  You want everyone to look good and put together and harmonious.  When I'm putting together a look for a family session, I typically start with the kids -- we pull a favorite patterned dress for your daughter or shirt for your son and then build around that, pulling colors from that pattern for everyone else.  Layers are great, textures even better.  We love pops of color coming from a bow in the hair (or around the neck), tights or boots.  Here are some examples of kids shining in their family portraits...

Your little stars... Bright and happy, soft and serene.  Both work and I always advise clients to think about their final images and where they are going to be displayed in their homes while they are picking a palette for their session.  Make sure your kids are comfortable and can move around (we do a lot of moving around in Katie B. sessions!)  Once we've captured your family the way you want, let your little stars shine and throw on a hot pink tutu with cowboy boots or “superhero” cape.  The possibilities are endless,  so whether you have a princess on your hands or a pirate, a ballerina, or a ballplayer -- break it out.  All of it.  And let’s ensure you look back and say, “yup, that was my kid... in all their glory...”

At Katie B. Photography we love to help our families and have many arrive at their sessions with a trunk full of possibilities or send photos ahead of time for us to weigh in on.  We also love recommending our favorite places to shop.  For kids clothes, J Crew Crew Cuts and Mini Boden never disappoints.  Gap Kids and Zara also have terrific kids clothes.  Going for a "straight out of a catalog" look?  Some of my favorites include Busy Bees, Blue Pony Vintage, Alice Kathleen, Jacadi,  and Baby CZ.

See you at your session!!!!
